Racing Porsche with Style

21st October 2020 by: Glen Smale | 2 Comments

This is Stéphane Coradi’s third publication, and the third of his books that I am reviewing. It must be said that Stéphane’s enthusiasm for his work is so irrepressible, it’s contagious. But that is refreshing, because he really encourages the contributors to show their work in his books and it is paying off for those artists because he goes the extra mile in trying to give … [Read more...]

Taking the Porsche 919 Hybrid around the world – Logistics Part III

29th March 2019 by: Glen Smale | Leave a Comment

Following a fifteen-year absence from the top tier of prototype racing on the world stage, Porsche officially returned to the LMP1 class in 2014 with the 919 Hybrid race car. Preparing a race car like the Porsche 919 Hybrid at Le Mans was no simple task, and so we have explored what was needed in this feature, Logistics Part III. The way the WEC was set up when the … [Read more...]

End of the road for Porsche’s 919 Hybrid

5th March 2019 by: Kevin Ehrlich | 3 Comments

In July 2017, Porsche shocked the motorsport community when it announced the end of its top tier prototype racing program a year early, in order to prepare for a move to Formula E. After returning to the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014, Porsche and its 919 Hybrid frequently visited podiums and victory lanes. Three consecutive overall wins at the … [Read more...]

Legendary – The history of the Porsche 919 Hybrid

19th February 2019 by: Glen Smale | Leave a Comment

There will be few who would argue that much of Porsche’s history has been shaped by motorsport. From the very early race cars, some constructed by privateer teams (in the 1950s), to the very latest versions, all have contributed in some way or form to the fabric of the company. In some instances, Porsche’s road cars have contributed to the development of their race cars, but in … [Read more...]

There, Timo Bernhard and Hans-Joachim Stuck will take the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo and the Porsche 956 C respectively on a demonstration run around the famous Nordschleife. 21st February 2018 by: Glen Smale | Leave a Comment

The 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed will be particularly notable this year, as the nation’s favourite motoring event celebrates its 25th anniversary. The central feature sculpture, always a dramatic display marking a significant manufacturer milestone, will this year recognise the 70th anniversary of Porsche cars. Production of the first Porsche sports car started back … [Read more...]

WEC Fuji waterworks

17th October 2017 by: Glen Smale | Leave a Comment

Sunday 15 October 2017 saw the running of Round 7 of the WEC Fuji, in Japan. It is quite typical to encounter heavy rain, even typhoons, in Japan at this time of the year, as a quick trip back through the motorsport history books will show. The teams and the drivers know this, so it should not have come as a great surprise. Qualifying for Round 7 at the Fuji Speedway, … [Read more...]

World Endurance Championship: Taming the Texas Heat

18th September 2017 by: Glen Smale | Leave a Comment

This last weekend saw a convincing performance by the factory Porsches, in both the LMP1 class and GTE Pro class at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas in round 6 of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 919 Hybrids romped home in first and second place and in the GTE Pro class the #92 911 RSR came home in second place. It was only in the GTE Am class that … [Read more...]

In the GTE Pro class, Richard Lietz and Frédéric Makowiecki (#91 911 RSR) crossed the line in third place.
